I’m talking about habits.
I just got back from five days in Vietnam, an intense trip of back to back meetings with potential manufacturers and artisan collectives. I can honestly say that I have not been this tired since the early days with a newborn baby. And anyone who knows, knows that this level of tired feels dangerous-to-drive tired, its debilitating. Safe to say I am not in a position to write a substack that is coherent!
But here I am. Because I want to create a substacking habit and while habits are hard to break, they are equally hard to make. So I am pushing through and sticking to my comittment to get a substack out today, despite the tired.
So Vietnam. I did share snippets on Tiktok and IG, and the resounding feedback I got was ‘what an incredible trip’ and ‘How fun!’. With next to zero downtime, I would not call the trip fun but incredible - yes. We stayed in a beautiful hotel which was gorgeous to wake up to, but we were on the road by 8am each day, travelling hours in hectic traffic to visit regional communities and makers.
We saw incredible and intricate weaving, pottery with mind blowing hand applied apliques, hand painted enamel, woodwork machinery and handy work that was out of this world. I visited maybe 5 textile houses - and discovered a particular fabric that I will be smothering my mood board (and next collection) in - its exquisite!
I am brimming with inspiration but need a nights sleep before I can action any of it!
On the plane, I read ‘The five dysfunctions of a team’ which sounds dull but was one of the best business books I’ve ever read - I want to do a whole post on it. It was much more than what it sounds, a deep dive into trust and conflict and communication within a workplace - but I can also see how these same pillars work within family and every relationship dynamics that requires teamwork.
I cant think of anything clever to finish off with, so I’ll pop some pics in.
I did it! I wrote a substack on 4 hours of sleep!
